Coming Home

Well the bad weather lasted longer than the team could wait. Continuing winds and snow have forced them down, and they will be headed to basecamp tonight, and hope to fly to Talkeetna tommorow. This is the unfortunate reality of any big adventure like this, the outcome is not guaranteed. I'm sure that we have some dissapointed climbers, but after more than a week of waiting, they are going to appreciate the showers and cheeseburgers that await them in Talkeetna. They gave it a good shot and should all feel good about the effort. This will be the final entry for this group unless they get stuck in basecamp for a while(with their luck they may). Thanks for tuning in.

Still Waiting

The weather hasn't been cooperating lately. They are still at the 14,000 camp hoping for a break in the wind and snow. Winds above them at the 17,000 camp have been gusting over 60mph today, so they are happy to be at the relative comfort of the 14,000 foot basin. The prediction is for the weather to settle down tonight and thru tommorow, so we hope it is accurate. They are starting to run out of time to wait, so they need to get a break soon. If they do get a chance they will be moving to the 17K camp tommorow. We'll keep you updated...

Waiting For the Weather

It has been fairly uneventful on Denali for the last several days. Everyone is catching up on their reading, and starting to swap and trade novels as they are finished. Lot's of time to read as they wait for the weather to settle down high on the mountain. They remain in the relative luxury of the 14,000 foot camp and are hoping for the wind and snow to settle down soon so they can continue on up the hill.
We'll update again and hope to have something new to add...

Holding Pattern

Our team is at 14,000 feet tonight. They have made the carry up to the ridge above the 3rd camp, and are rested and ready to move. Today the weather was unsettled and windy, they will typically wait for a more stable bit of weather before moving to High Camp and making the summit attempt. Hope for nice weather, they could be making the final move any day now.

Still At 14,000ft

The May 26 West Buttress expedition called in and they are still at the 14,000 camp. They will carry a load of food and fuel to the ridge today at 16,200 feet, and then probably spend tommorow taking a well deserved rest. They are getting ready for the move to high camp, and should be acclimated, and ready to go for it in a couple of days.

Just Called In

We'll Heidi Kloos the lead guide on the expedition just called in from 14K. Everyone is doing great. The weather forecast for the next few days on the high mountain is calling for wind, so they will probably have to wait a bit before moving up to the high camp at 17,000 ft.

I'll update if we hear anything new.

May 26 Denali Expedition

Well we have returned to the office after being out in the field leading expeditions ourselves. Apologies for the lack of updates on this trip, but I have been in Radio contact with the team on the mountain and they are doing great. They have made good progress so far, and are at the 14,000 ft camp today. Typically teams will spend 3-5 nights at this camp to acclimate, and wait for good weather to make the push up to the 17,000 ft high camp. Everyone is doing great, and I will update the blog as soon as I hear any news from the team.
